They found a barn full of RO 80s near me a couple of years ago.

Damn, the state of those is/was quite a shame, though it the text states most already were bad in 88, so maybe they were already close to gone when they were stored.

Ah yes the M35, I like them most if they still have the prototype writing on the fender. Sadly the Citroen side of the Comotor project went down worse than the NSU side, the GS Birotor only sold 847 times.

A shame for real. Also, who in their right mind would swap a V4 for a Wankel in a RO80?

Well, apparently it is a good fit, and it is probably more reliable, though it is pure sacrilege.

A person who didn’t want to rebuild his engine every year and didn’t want the fuel bills of a Wankel?

I saw a Birotor on sale a couple of years ago for €7,000 for a car that was said to be rust free and running well. I was almost tempted.

Nobody would be something Wankel engined for reliability. A V4 in a RO 80 does sound interesting though.

In other words someone without the guts or money to drive a RO 80.

That is quite tempting indeed, I’m no expert on the Birotor market, but such a rare car, rust free and running well for €7000 sounds quite good.

I saw a Ro80 at a car park a few days ago.
Sadly have no SR20, but it was has a cream exterior and some classy black leather and wood on the inside.
For a car that was made in 1967, it even looks futuristic in 1977. It’s an awesome retreat machine that’s so ahead of its time.

Indeed, it is so modern that it must have seemed to be from another world when it was introduced.

That looks like a great model! I hadn’t expected models of such a production-prototype would exist.

Nice, a friend of mine has one of those NSU he is storing for someone in his warehouse. Its actually in great condition aside from the massive layers of dust.

At the time though, forty-odd years ago, Ro80s were just an expensive nightmare and given the chance of doing something - anything - to improve them people went for the V4 option. They were cheap and fitted.

Dude, you got to visit LaLD more often ;-) This was a French Friday topic a long time ago, it’s 1/43 and I think I’ve got one unboxed/certainly not mint for spare if you want it.
There’s so much obscurity available in 1/43...

There were some conversions in the 70s mainly but from what I read they were rather loud and they didn’t really suit the RO 80 that much. Either way it’s costly to drive a RO 80 I guess.

I know I need to visit more often, though that one is from before I got really active in the Kinja-verse.
How ‘not mint’ are we talking about? Because I do really like the M35.

Oh, the body is good, it’s not that bad, maybe the mirror is off or something. I’ll look it up for you!
